Provincial Trials:Durham Makes Podium Finishes!

Battling sub-zero temperatures, a major winter snowstorm and two (false) fire alarms at the pool, Durham Synchro showed it had all the right stuff at the 2005 Provincial Trials, held at Waterloo 's Wilfred Laurier University
this past weekend.

Congratulations to ALL competitors, especially newcomers to figures competition, for trying their best and representing Durham Synchro so well. We are proud of you!

Topped off by the selection of our very own Katie Cornish (Tier 7) to the Canada Games - Team Ontario 2005 team, our Club had both teams on the podium (Tier 6 - 1st place; Tier 7 - 4th place). Seven Tier 6 and Tier 7 duets and solos also placed in the top six.

In the figures portion of the meet, our Tier 1 and Tier 3 teams put three swimmers on the podium. Well done!

Twelve swimmers were selected for Team Ontario from a total of 18 swimmers who had been vying for a spot on the team. Synchro Swim Canada hopes to send the team to an international invitational competition this year. Way to go Katie ! Coach Leslie Wickens is also to be congratulated for preparing Katie so well for these tryouts.

As President Janice MacLellan noted, "We are very excited about this wonderful opportunity for Katie and the learning and experience she will get from international travel and competition. We wish Katie all the best and request that she sends Durham Synchro a postcard on her travels!"
