First Meet of Season Nets Impressive Results

Congratulations, Julia!

Congratulations to all Durham Synchro competitive swimmers who participated in the 2005 Lisa Alexander Figures Meet at Wilfred Laurier University on Saturday,
December 3, 2005.

Our club sent 34 provincial- and national-level athletes to the first meet of their 2005/2006 season, and for some of our Tier 1 and Tier 2 swimmers, Lisa A. was their very first taste of synchronized swimming competition. Way to go, girls! This competition followed successful Star testing for our swimmers, including the achievement of three Star levels (Tiers 5, 6 & 7) for Tier 6/7's Christa Hutton.

Tier 1 Coach Sarah Rowe says: "I could not be happier with Tier 1's results! This team, made up entirely from new swimmers aged eight to 12 years of age, placed very well at their first figures meet!  We ended up right in the middle of Tier 1 results, which is a great success for a first-time meet, and leaves lots of room for improvement later in the season.”

“Not only were their figures performances impressive, Tier 1 also showed lots of support for their teammates, and other swimmers in the club.  Swimmers on the team are:  Shannon Blaney, Kaitlin Bishop,  Meagan Caulfield , Heather Clarke, Katrina Clissold, Lindsay Evelyn, Sarah Masters, Samantha Smith and Taylor Summers."

Tier 2's Lindsay Dawson placed 44 th in a large field of 102 swimmers. Coach Rochelle Fernandez was also pleased with her team's showing at Lisa A. “They performed confidently and I am proud of all they have accomplished in their first month of competitive synchro,” she says. In Tier 3 figures, Alexandra Opydo placed 12 th ; in Tier 4, Stephanie Geller and Ali Young were second and tenth.

In Tier 6 competition, Julia Maclean took the gold medal and the Tier 6 trophy, followed closely on the podium by teammate Brianna MacLellan in fifth place. Carrie Mouck was also a top-ten Tier 6 swimmer, finishing in 9 th place.

In Tier 7 Jr. competition, Durham Synchro took two of six podium placements, with Katie LePage in fifth place in her very first Tier 7 figures competition, and teammate Chelsey Matthews in sixth place.
