Provincials Yield Eight Podium Finishes for Durham


Durham Synchro's Tier 7 team took silver at the 2006 Provincials!

Durham Synchro's eight Tier 6 and Tier 7 athletes took their figures and routine skills to the 2006 Provincials at Etobicoke Olympium on February 17-19, and were rewarded with a brand-new crop of ribbons, medals, and trophies!

In Tier 6 15 & Under figures competition, Durham's Julia Maclean placed first out of 85 competitors and received a gold medal and trophy in recognition of her achievement. Brianna MacLellan was also on the podium in fourth place, and Carrie Mouck placed tenth.

In Tier 7 figures competition, Chelsey Matthews placed 8th , and Katie LePage placed 13th . In Tier 7 duet, Chelsey and Katie placed second in routine, and third overall.

In Tier 6 15 & Under duet competition, Julia and Carrie placed first out of 12 teams from 13 clubs across Ontario . Congratulations, girls! In Tier 6 15 & Under solo, Julia was gold again, and Brianna took the silver medal. Carrie Mouck was also on the podium in sixth place.

The grand finale of the three-day competition was Tier 7 Junior team, and Durham had an excellent swim that was good enough for silver with a routine score of 79.000. This routine, coached by Holley Lundmark, has had excellent reviews by both judges and spectators alike. Team members are: Christa Hutton, Katie LePage, Julia Maclean, Brianna MacLellan, Chelsey Matthews, Allie Mear, Carrie Mouck, and Alaina Wade.

Thanks go to our coaches, Holley Lundmark and Leslie Wickens, for all of their hard work and preparation for this meet, which was a resounding success for our club.

In the Tier 6 All Round Swimmer category, Julia took the first-place trophy and Carrie Mouck was 12th . In the Tier 7 category, Chelsey and Katie placed sixth and 8th respectively. In Phase II of 2006 Team Ontario / Canada Games tryouts, Julia is ranked 2nd ; Chelsey is in fifth place, and Katie LePage is in 8th place. The final tryout will take place in early April.

Tier 6/7 parents and swimmers would like to thank all of the other swimmers, parents and coaches who made the trek out to Olympium to support the girls. It was wonderful to see so much support at all levels – thank you!
