Accomplished Athlete and Award-Winning Coach - An Unstoppable Pair!

Julia Maclean and Holley Lundmark of the Durham Synchronized Swimming Club have been seen working closely together on pool decks across Durham for a very long time, now. Their special relationship as mentor and star student has developed over tireless hours of practice and performance, struggle and incredible success.

Julia Maclean of Ajax, is Durham Synchro’s most decorated athlete. From her beginning days in the competitive world of synchronized swimming competing Provincially, she has met with steady success. Now, a seasoned competitor in both National and International competitions, Julia continues to challenge herself and, as Captain of her team, serve as a role model to her fellow swimmers.

Her most recent accomplishments in International competition include a Gold Medal in the first ASUA Pan American Games in Mexico in 2007 with the 13-15 year old Canadian Team and a repeat Gold Medal performance with the Canadian 16-18 year old team at the U.S. Open in Hawaii in July 2007. So far 2008 is looking great for this young athlete. At Provincial Championships this year, Julia achieved 1 st in Figures, Duet and Solo (Coached by Leslie Wickens) and was named the All-Round and Aggregate Award winner!

This string of successes is applauded by the entire Durham Club, but none are clapping louder than Head Coach Holley Lundmark who has worked with Julia for the past nine years. Holley has been senior and head coach at Durham Synchro for 12 of her 17 years of coaching. Her unwavering support for her swimmers and lifelong commitment to the sport have been instrumental in transforming the club into a competitive force in the province. The Coaches Association of Ontario has recently named Holley Lundmark as their Female Coach of the Year in the Developmental Category. This prestigious award recognizes her contributions as a coach to athletes who are developing competitive skills as well as her preparation of athletes for higher levels of competition.

The commitment and determination of these two women are truly inspirational to those who work and train around them.
