East Regional Championships 2009

The Biggest success story of the East Regional Championships held in Ottawa during the first weekend of March was clearly Durham’s Tier 3/4 Team coached by Sarah Rowe. This outstanding group of swimmers all achieved personal best figures results in the top 20 and swam on to claim silver in Team. Top-notch figure results were turned in by Wenjing Deng (2nd in T3-12&U) Julia Ehrt (2nd in T3-13&O), Brooke Stevens (3rd  in T4-14&O), Ellen Hamilton (3rd in T3-13&O), Amber Mealing (4th in T3-13&O) and Shannon Blaney (6th in T3-13&O). Ellen Ritchie and Meagan Caulfield rounded out the results with 10th and 14th place finishes. The crowning achievement for this group of girls was the Gold medal performance in T3 Duet by Julia Ehrt and Ellen Hamilton. Kudos to all of the girls for this amazing showing.

The Tier 6 Provincial Team of Emma Campbell, Kristyn Davies, Meg Grylls, Tyerra Lowe, Caroline Ristow, Sarah Thompson and Sarah Walsh, turned in a 3rd place performance under coach, Jenilee Keslering. The Tier 6 duet of Heather Clarke and Sarah Masters finished 5th in duet competition after extremely successful individual results. Sarah took gold while Heather achieved a podium worthy 4th in figures!

In Tier 2 competition our Durham team of MacKenzie Broad, Stephanie Dalgleish, Rachel Enright, Samantha Gurrieri, Nicole Milligan, Reyanne Padgett, Nicole Rayment and Samantha Weima, coached by Amy McPherson swam to a 7th place finish. Special congratulations to Reyanne Padgett on her podium worthy 3rd place result in 12&U figures.

Coach Michelle Lopers’ Tier 1 team placed an impressive 3rd place in routine, with the additional distinction of having two swimmers on the figure’s podium as well. Laura Walsh captured 1st place in T1 figures and Madelyn Minaret claimed a podium spot with her 5th place finish. Congratulations to all swimmers: Andrea Beekman, Brooke Campbell, Nieve Iannarelli, Elizabeth Kozak, Samantha Low, Madelyn Minaret and Laura Walsh.
