DSSC Sets Pulses Racing at 2010 Masters Provincial Championships

On April 18, 2010, swimmers from DSSC ventured to the Centennial Pool in Burlington to see their coaches, friends and daughters compete in the 2010 Masters Provincial Championships. Occupying several spots on the bleachers in viewing area spectators anxiously prepared to cheer on synchronized swimmers who ranged in age from 18-64 years as they took to the pool in solo, duets and team events. No stranger to competition, DSSC’s Master’s team, coached by Holley Lundmark, elegantly assembled themselves on deck waiting for their pulsating music to begin.
Clothed in unique routine suits accented with jagged linear designs in green, gold and splashes of red these athletes looked striking against the stark contrast of the aquatic facility. Heartbeats introduced the team’s mesmerizing music then the crowd erupted. Fueled by their fans and by their confidence, this team ruled the pool. Incorporating a secret agent on the run theme in their choreography the team sliced through an electric routine with several melody changes. There was no running from the final scores when they revealed that the DSSC Master’s team had taken first place in the Free Team, 18-34 Year Old division and tied for first place with Toronto in the Tech Team, 18-34 Year Old division.
For the young DSSC swimmers cheering from the stands, this was an incredible opportunity to witness their coaches incorporate the very attributes they themselves are striving to obtain – professionalism, power, grace, synchronicity and confidence. If this event is to be any indication of what is to be expected from the Masters team as they compete in the XIII FINA World Masters Championships 2010 held in Sweden (July 27 – August 7, 2010, Aby Swimming Arena), the DSSC Master’s team will receive many more ribbons and trophies to grace their shelves but more importantly they’ve already won the respect from the young athletes they are shaping!
