DSSC 12 & Unders Stand Out at 2010 Trilliums

They may be under the age of 13 years, but these swimmers from the provincial competitive teams demonstrated that there is power within the preteen! On June 12-13, DSSC swimmers attended the Trillium 12 & Under Open Provincial Championships 2010 hosted by the York Synchro Club at the Magna Pool in Newmarket, ON. Under the watchful eye of coaches Michele Lopers (10 & Under team), Kirsten Femson (11-12 Years team) and Jenilee Keslering (Tier 6 team) their swimmers placed within the top twenty of various divisions within this competition.

As a wonderful highlight to this meet, the duet team of Samantha Low and Laura Walsh ranked second and placed on the podium in the Duet Finals category. Moving up from Trillium Duetsixth place during the Duet Prelims, 12 & Under category, this duet performed an exciting routine that had the audience sitting on the edge of their seats. These young ladies shimmered in turquoise routine suits with magenta flame like designs that reflected their fiery determination to reach the podium. A special mention is necessary for the duet teams of Elizabeth Kozak and Madelyn Minaret who placed 19 and the team of Brook Evans and Nieve Iannarelli who placed 22 in the Duet Prelims, 12 & Under category. Both teams performed strongly and with a great sense of one another with beautiful figures and well thought choreographies. Continuing with strong performances was Alicia Lopers who placed 22 in the Solo Prelims, 10 & Under category.

Each swimmer who represented the Durham Synchro Club during this competition demonstrated personal triumphs in the Figures competition. Seven athletes from DSSC placed well within the leader board in Figures – Laura Walsh (6), Alicia Lopers (37), Samantha Low (38), Madelyn Minaret (44), Brooke Evans (68), Nieve Iannarelli (77) and Elizabeth Kozak (80).

Congratulations to the athletes from DSSC whose long hours of extra practice time before and after regularly scheduled team practices paid off with strong standings in finals and figures.
