CAO Presents Award to DSC Provincial Coach

Kirsten Femson, Coach of Durham Synchro Club’s 13-15 Yr Old Provincial team, was honoured recently by the Coaches Association of Ontario (CAO)with an award in the Development Category, Synchronized Swimming. During a ceremony held at the London Convention Centre on Saturday, February 26, 2011 awards were handed out to nine male and female coaches for their contribution to sport and leadership at the 2011 Ontario Coaching Excellence Awards. The award recipients were all coaches who demonstrated their ability to motivate their athletes with wisdom, humility and inspiration. Presenting the awards was the Honourable Margarett Best of the Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport.

During a video presentation for each coach, it became plainly visibly why Kirsten’s young protégés believed she qualified for this recognition. Kirsten, who has been coaching since 2008 and a member of Durham Synchro’s Masters Team, was nominated for this award by the members of the 13-15 Yr Old Provincial team. She has worked tirelessly and has dedicated many hours towards helping the next generation of young swimmers achieve new heights in synchronized swimming. Her many accomplishments in synchronized swimming include coaching the 11-12 Yr Old Provincial team to a bronze medal in the 2010 East Regional Championships in Nepean, ON and a silver medal during the XIII FINA World Championships held in Sweden in July 2010 as a member of the DSC Masters team. While Kirsten spends many hours poolside, she is a dedicated volunteer in her community. In an article from the CAO, Kirsten was quoted as saying,

“To be supported by your peers is an amazing feeling,” states Kirsten Femson, female award recipient in the Development Category.  “To know that people in my community value what I do inspires me to continue to be the best coach that I can be for my athletes.”   The Coaches Association of Ontario is a non-profit coach-led organization that strengthens development opportunities and provides educational resources for coaches. The CAO promotes coaching ethics and ensures the wider community recognizes the vital role of the coach in the development of sport at all levels.
