The Calgary Air Agrees with Durham Synchro

The Talisman Sport Centre in Calgary, Alberta was the site of intense competition during the 2011 Canadian Open Championships & National Team Trials, April 22-May 1, 2011. Hosted by the Calgary Aquabelles swimmers represented the majority of provinces from Newfoundland to British Columbia. Durham Synchro’s National team swimmers performed magnificently in the pool returning to Ontario with good performance results.

The final results for the 16-18 Figures category are as follows – Amber Mealing (35), Julia Erht (68), Shannon Blaney (71), Samantha Gurrieri (105), Sarah Exley (113), Meagan Caulfield (115) and Ellen Ritchie (118). In the Junior FINA Duet Prelims, duet team Alycia Halyk and Rachel Nickerson illustrated a strong performance placing them 14th overall while Heather Clarke and Katie Gagnon finished 20th. Both duet teams didn’t reach the Finals category however this did not dissuade their determination and enthusiasm.

DSC’s 16-18 National team performed well in the 16-18 Team Prelims Championship round but came up too short to reach the Championships category. DSC’s Junior FINA team narrowly missed the podium with a 7th place finish overall. Coaches Julia Maclean, Jenilee Keslering and Head Coach Holley Lundmark created strong routines with creative choreographies. With their swimmers decked out in splendid routine suits and strong ambitions, Durham Synchro continued to demonstrate their prowess amongst their provincial rivals and regional counterparts.
