Durham Synchro Club’s first competition of the season was a successful outing for the club’s three National level teams. All three teams captured podium spots at the Synchro Swim Ontario Provincial Trials competition held January 21-23, 2011 at the Etobicoke Olympium. Stephanie Geller from the DSC Jr. FINA team captured a podium worthy 5th place in Figures. This strong result comes in advance of her upcoming participation in the Canada Winter Games to be held in Halifax at the end of February.

In Jr. FINA Routine category, the team placed second in a very strong field. Team members Heather Clarke, Katie Gagnon, Stephanie Geller, Alycia Halyk, Ellen Hamilton, Rachel Nickerson and Venessa Trajanos flourished under the direction of Head Coach Holley Lundmark. The Jr. FINA duet teams of Rachel Nickerson & Alycia Halyk, and Heather Clarke & Katie Gagnon, placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

DSC’s National 16-18 Year Old Team members, coached by Jenilee Keslering, Shannon Blaney, Meagan Caulfield, Julia Ehrt, Sarah Exley, Sam Gurrieri, Amber Mealing and Ellen Ritchie captured 6th place in the competition.

DSC’s 13-15 Year Old National Team, coached by Julia Maclean, placed 4th in a field of 14 teams. Team members Kristyn Davies, Wenjing Deng, Meg Grylls, Sarah Masters, Reyanne Padgett, Caitlin Schropp, Laura Walsh and Kionna Whyte distinguished themselves in this competitive category. Wenjing Deng’s solo ranked 8th overall. Sarah Masters & Kionna Whyte placed 11th in their duet, while Kristyn Davies & Meg Grylls placed 12th and Reyanne Padgett & Caitlin Schropp placed 16th.
